Acknowledgments

English-language copyright-deposit playscripts were researched in two custodial divisions of the Library: the Rare Book and Special Collections Division and the Manuscript Division. Though only plays selected from the holdings of the Rare Book Division have been digitized at this time, staff members from different parts of the Library helped advance this work: Alice Birney, of the Manuscript Division; Gayle Harris, formerly of the Copyright Office; David Kennaly and George Chiassion, of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division, as well as the Rare Book Reading Room reference staff, Joan Higbee, Clark Evans, and Robert Shields. Several former Rare Book staff members also provided expert assistance: Belinda Urquiza, of the Automation, Planning, and Liaison Office; Mary Lacy, of the Manuscript Division; Lester Vogel, of the Scholarly Programs Office; and Meredith Shedd-Driskel and Barbara Dash, of the Cataloging Directorate. National Digital Library Program staff Jurretta Jordan Heckscher, Elizabeth Higgins Null, Dominique Pickett, Jane Bossert, Tracey Salley, and Carl Fleischhauer also contributed greatly. Project consultant Don B. Wilmeth, Professor of Theater and English at Brown University, provided guidance on selection and helpful historical background on American popular entertainment.
