Acknowledgments

Many people assisted with the development of the American Variety Stage collection. The initial advisory committee for this project consisted of subject experts from all over the Library who offered their expertise, enthusiasm, and advice on the treasures, many of them little known, that have become part of the digital collection. Members of that committee were: David Francis, Pat Loughney, and Sam Brylawski, of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division (MBRS); Gayle Harris, formerly of the Copyright Office; Walter Zvonchenko, of the Music Division; Bernard Reilly and Elena Millie, of the Prints and Photographs Division (P&P); Alice Birney, of the Manuscript Division. Others who provided significant assistance were: Gene DeAnna, of MBRS; Meredith Shedd-Driskell, of the Cataloging Directorate; Michael Grunberger and Peggy Pearlstein, of the Hebraic Section of the African and Middle Eastern Division; Carl Fleischhauer, Jane Bossert, Jurretta Jordan Heckscher, Dominique Pickett, Steve McCollum, and Elizabeth Higgins Null, of the National Digital Library Program; and Dennis McNew, of the Photoduplication Service. Don B. Wilmeth, Professor of Theater and English at Brown University, who served as a consultant to the project, provided invaluable help in assessing the Library's source materials. Theater historian David Mayer, Professor of Drama at the University of Manchester, also provided great insight into the collection materials. Gratitude is also extended to Ricky L. Erway, formerly of the American Memory pilot project; Jim Pruitt, formerly of the Music Division; Belinda Urquiza, of the Automation Planning, and Liaison Office, Mary Lacy, of the Manuscript Division, and Les Vogel, of the Scholarly Programs Office, all formerly of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division; and David Kennaly and George Chiassion, of the Rare Book and Special Collection Division.
